The Luthor from "Last Son Of Krypton" (and its sequel, "Miracle Monday") is by far the least evil version I've run across (for older versions, anyway. Obviously the young Lex Luthor from the Superboy comics and Lex from "Smallville" are in a different category). He's more like the Trickster from Native American mythology than the hardened criminal from the DC comics and the TV shows. IIRC, Maggin made a point of saying that Superman knew that Luthor had never taken an innocent human life, and that he was willing--if profoundly saddened--to accept the burden of having all of Lex's hate directed at him rather than the rest of the world. I'm pretty sure that Lex and Clark aren't going to get off that lightly in the Smallville timeline.
